India's July Gas Production Drops

India’s gross production of natural gas during July dropped 5% year on year, data published August 21 by country’s oil ministry showed. Production in June was down as well.

Gross production in July was 2.71bn m3 compared with 2.85bn m3 in the year ago period. Cumulative gross production during the financial year than began April 1 was 10.78bn m3, down 1.2% year on year, the ministry said.

Thanks to stagnant production, India has been increasingly relying on imported LNG to meet domestic gas demand. In July, the country imported 2.47bn mof pipeline gas in the form of LNG (about 1.85mn metric tons), up almost 29% compared with the same month of previous year, oil ministry data showed. During the first four months of the present financial year that began April 1, cumulative imports were 9.45bn m3, up by more than a fifth year on year.
