India's H Energy Signs Up Customers for its Proposed Canadian LNG Project

India’s H Energy said Friday that it has signed up multiple customers for the LNG plant and export terminal it is planning to build in Melford, Guysborough County in Canada, reports The Chronicle Herald, a local newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the company said it has memorandums of understanding (MOU) for 50 per cent of the plant’s capacity.

“These (agreements) are with customers in India, the Middle East and Europe. Discussions are also underway with South Asian countries,” the company said in a statement.

The proposed facility, likely to be complete by 2020, is expected to produce 13.5 million tonnes of LNG per year, says The Chronicle Herald. The initial plan is to export 4.5 million tonnes of fuel.

Front-end engineering and design work on the Nova Scotia project has started and will be finished by  the end of the year while a final decision on whether to proceed with the venture will be made by mid-2016, the company said.

The Indian company would also will ask the National Energy Board in October to grant an export permit for the venture, the newspaper adds.

H-Energy is a subsidiary of Mumbai’s based Hiranandani Group.
