H-Energy Welcomes India's First FSRU

India’s H-Energy, part of Mumbai-based Hiranandani Group, has received India’s first floating LNG import terminal.

H-Energy said May 1 the FSRU GDF Suez Cape Ann arrived at Jaigarh Port in the western Indian state of Maharashtra (see photo above, courtesy of H-Energy); it is not expected to be operational until 4Q2018.

FSRU GDF Suez Cape Ann is owned by Hoegh LNG but on charter to France's Engie which had sub-chartered it to China's CNOOC for the last two winters for use at the Chinese port of Tianjin.

Once operational later this year at Jaigarh, regasified LNG will be supplied to customers through a 60-km tie-in pipeline that shall be connected to national gas grids at Dabhol. The 4mn mt/yr floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) will additionally offer reloading, bunkering and truck loading facilities to cater to the growing energy demand of Indian industries, H-Energy said.

The FSRU-led approach will reduce the time required to commission new regasification projects, said H-Energy CEO Darshan Hiranandani: “This project enables H-Energy to become a large scale provider of natural gas to India, a much desired green fuel.” In February 2018 H-Energy agreed terms to receive LNG from Malaysian state-owned Petronas, but provided little detail. In addition to the FSRU at Jaigarh, H-Energy is also developing a floating terminal on India’s east coast.

Update May 3: Shipowner Golar LNG confirmed to NGW that the GDF Suez Cape Ann left China on March 31.
