India's Gas Output in April Drops 19%

India’s natural gas production in April was 2.16bn m3, down 18.62% yr/yr, country’s petroleum and natural gas ministry said on May 23.

Lower production last month was due to state-run ONGC reporting a 15.3% yr/yr drop in output to 1.72bn m3. “The shortfall in gas production is primarily due to less gas off take by consumers due to Covid-19 lockdown,” the ministry said. On March 25, India imposed a lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19). The lockdown is in place till May 31.

Natural gas production by another state-run explorer, Oil India, was 202.05mn m3, down 9.99% on the same month of last year. Private companies produced 233.59mn m3 of natural gas last month, down 40.67% yr/yr, the ministry said.
