India's gas consumption up 34% in April

Indian natural gas consumption in April came to 5.23bn m3, up 34.5% year/year, the Indian oil and gas ministry's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) website showed May 20.

The sharp spike in April was due to the lower base in April 2020 when India was under a full lockdown to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, India’s gas production in April was 2.65bn m3, up 22.7% yr/yr. Its LNG imports last month came in at 2.66bn m³ of pipeline equivalent (about 2mn metric tons), up 45.2% yr/yr, PPAC data showed.
