India's August Gas Output Remains Flat

India’s gross production of natural gas during August grew by just 0.6% year on year, data published September 20 by country’s oil ministry showed. Production in July was up 5% year on year.

Gross production in August was 2.78bn m3 while in July India produced 2.71bn mof natural gas. Cumulative gross production during the financial year than began April 1 was 13.57bn m3, down 0.9% year on year, the ministry said.

Thanks to stagnant production, India has been increasingly relying on imported LNG to meet domestic gas demand. In August, India imported LNG equivalent to 2.31bn mof pipeline gas (about 1.8mn metric tons LNG), which was up almost 10% on year, according to data published September 20 by the oil ministry. During the first five months of the present financial year that began April 1, cumulative LNG imports were 11.75bn m3, up by more than 18%.
