India's August Gas Use Rises

India’s natural gas consumption in August was up 7% year on year, according to latest data from oil ministry's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC).

The south Asian nation consumed 4.58bn m3 of natural gas this August, compared with 4.28bn m3 in August 2017. Regasified LNG accounted for 53% of total gas consumption in August 2018.

The Indian government has been promoting the use of gas to tackle air pollution. It wants to double the share of gas in energy mix from 7.5% at present to 15% in next five years.
