India's 2016 LNG Imports to be Higher by 2.5mn mt

With global prices continuing to remain low, Indian buyers are likely to end the calendar year 2016 with 2.5 million mt more of LNG imports than last year, AK Balyan, CEO- oil and gas, Reliance Group said during the second LNG India Summit that was held in New Delhi November 3-4. In 2015, India imported a little over 15mn mt of LNG.

With LNG imports climbing, he added, the share of gas in India’s energy mix will reach double digits very soon. Now, natural gas has about 6% share in India’s overall energy basket.
