Indian State of Tripura is Highest Gas Yielding Zone

Indian state of Tripura has the highest gas-yielding zone in the world, where success rate of natural gas exploration has reached 50 per cent over the last 40 years, Times of India reported quoting ONGC Tripura asset manager Ved Prakash Mahwar.

"ONGC has achieved success in only 36 per cent exploration wells in India against 30 per cent in global rate of successful drilling. But in case of Tripura, we are getting a success in every two wells," said Mahwar.

The state owned explorer has drilled as many as 176 wells in 11 fields of the state and 82 of them are producing gas since 1972, Times of India reported.

ONGC has not found any oil in the state yet but plans to bring in new machines for deep drilling to look for oil.
