Indian Reliance has 205 Active Wells in Sohagpur CBM Field

Indian Reliance Industries (RIL) produced 8.6mn metres3 of coalbed methane during the quarter that ended June 30 from the Sohagpur (West) block in the state of Madhya Pradesh, it said last week.

Commercial production from the field started in March this year and currently 205 wells are flowing. The gas is being sold to Reliance Industries itself.

Commenting on its US shale gas operations, Reliance said that drilling and completion activity that had re-commenced at Eagle Ford joint venture during the quarter that ended March 31, continued during the June quarter. At Marcellus joint ventures, there was no drilling and completion done in the operated area, Reliance said.

With gas prices being supportive, production was maintained at a relatively higher level at the Carrizo joint venture compared with the previous quarter; but at Eagle Ford JV several wells were shut-in due to completion activity in adjacent pads. As a result, overall Reliance’s share of production was 11% lower quarter-on-quarter at 34.7bn feet3.

“The shale gas business continues to maintain a cautious approach to resuming development. Current focus remains on maintaining cost leadership that has been achieved in the recent quarters and on closely monitoring performance of new pads that utilize new well designs,” the company said.

RIL's shale gas business in the US includes three upstream joint ventures with Chevron, Pioneer Natural Resource and Carrizo Oil and Gas. It sold its midstream JV with Pioneer last June.
