Indian L&T Wins Bangladesh CCGT Contract

A consortium of India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Korean Samsung C&T Corporation has been awarded a contract by Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) for setting up Bibiyana South 400-MW combined cycle power plant, L&T said November 29.

L&T will do the engineering, procurement and construction under a contract valued at about $250mn. This 400-MW gas based power plant will be at Bibiyana Upzila in Hobiganj district of Sylhet division in the northeastern sector of Bangladesh, around 215 km from Agartala in India. L&T’s scope includes the design, detail engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the power plant on a turnkey basis.

The plant will incorporate single-shaft advanced class gas turbine, steam turbine and generator from Siemens, which will be procured by L&T. L&T-Sargent & Lundy, a joint venture company of L&T and US-based Sargent & Lundy will carry out the plant integration and detail engineering, using propriety technology of Sargent & Lundy, L&T said.

The project will be executed by L&T's gas-based power projects business  in Vadodara, India.

L&T has recently commissioned two other power projects in Bangladesh: 360-MW Bheramara CCGT for North West Power Generation Company; and the 225-MW Sikalbaha CCGT for BPDB.
