Indian Gas Exchange registers record volumes in July

The Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) recorded its highest-ever monthly traded volume in July, it said on August 9.

IGX traded 398,550mn Btu of gas last month, up 117% month/month. The average gas price at 766 rupees ($10.3)/mn Btu discovered during the month at IGX was about 50% higher than the 527 rupees/mn Btu in June. The prices are however still lower than the average price of about 960 rupees/mn Btu in the general spot market in the country, IGX said.

Established in 2020, IGX is India’s first automated national-level gas exchange for the physical delivery of natural gas. It offers trade in five contracts, including daily, weekly, weekday, fortnightly, and monthly delivery, at three physical hubs: Hazira and Dahej in Gujarat and KG basin in Andhra Pradesh.
