India's Meghalaya State Wants to Its Exploit Shale Reserves

Indian state of Meghalaya wants to tie up with private power producers for the development of its shale gas assets in the state, Business Standard reported last week.

"Meghalaya has a lot of shale gas potentiality, but lacks the technical knowhow for its development," Power Principal Secretary J P Prakash said. He added that state desires to tie up with private power producers for developing shale gas in the state and urges Independent Power Producers Association of India to induce private companies which are experts in the field to invest in the state.

A detailed study on the amount of shale gas present in the state is being conducted by a Mumbai-based company, the newspaper quoted him as saying.
