IGU appoints Mel Ydreos as interim secretary general
The International Gas Union (IGU) announced on November 29 that it appointed Menelaos (Mel) Ydreos as its Interim Secretary General, replacing Milton Catelin.
In the role, Ydreos will have full authority to lead the IGU's Secretariat and manage the organisation's London headquarter operations, with a focus on membership engagement, international advocacy and the group's flagship events series, the IGU said.
The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) NGC’s HSSE strategy is reflective and supportive of the organisational vision to become a leader in the global energy business.
Ydreos most recently served as Executive Director for LNG2023, the largest LNG exhibition and conference in the world, which took place in Vancouver, Canada. Previously he was also the IGU's Director of Public Affairs, and served as Chairman of the Coordination Committee under the US IGU Presidency. The IGU also noted that it played a key role in the staging of the World Gas Conference (WGC2018) in Washington DC.
“I am delighted that Mel will be the IGU’s Interim Secretary General with his rich and valued IGU, corporate, and association expertise," commented IGU President Li Yalan. "I look forward to working with Mel, particularly as we prepare to stage the IGRC2024 in Banff, Alberta, in 2024 and the World Gas Conference in Beijing in 2025."
“I am energised to return to the IGU to serve as interim Secretary General," Ydreos said. "Gas has a major role to play in the many energy transition pathways around the world, and I am looking forward to helping ensure that the IGU – the Global Voice of Gas – effectively engages in the global energy fora to deliver that message.”
