Hutton and Iskander Optimistic on KRA-1 Well in Ukraine

Hutton Energy and Iskander Energy have announced that operations on the KRA-1 well in Donetsk, Ukraine have been completed.

The preliminary results from the first well were encouraging with interpreted pay in three potential intervals. The sands represent a quality reservoir with 8-10% interpreted porosity and core laboratory measurements indicating permeabilities ranging from 02-0.8 mD.

Following the stimulation of the three pay intervals on the KRA-1 well over the Christmas period, gas and a flare were produced and the well has now been suspended with pressure recorders to monitor pressure build-up. If a pressure response is seen the well will be re-entered and assisted lift using Nitrogen will be employed.

The KRA-1 is the first of a two-three well programme targeting tight sands on the Donets Basin exploration license.

The area was chosen due to relatively deep coals containing significant gas potential. Shell was recently awarded a £10 billion production sharing agreement adjacent to the concession, which government officials say holds 2 Tcm of gas and could produce up to 15 Bcm of gas by 2020.

Managing Director David Messina commented: “We are very pleased with the results of our first well which has confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons and we look forward to progressing the drilling program with our partner Iskander.”
