Hawkley Positive After Sorochynska-202 Drill

Hawkley Oil & Gas says that it expects to go into production on the Sorochynska-202 well, Ukraine, following the completion of testing on the well.

In an update released yesterday, Hawkley said that it had encountered hydrocarbons in several sands while drilling the well: in the Upper B18, Lower B18, Upper B19 and Lower B19 sands of the prospect. Additionally, Hawkley says it has encountered an gas column of approximately 10 metres in the Lower B19 sands. The company is now conducting additional analysis on the sands, including analysis of two cores taken in the top of the sand. Hawkley will also conduct a a cased hole testing of the sand in the coming days.

However, Hawkely also said that there appeared to be a gas water contact close to the base of this sand. Because of this, the Lower B19 sand is not considered a completion prospect. Once the planned testing on the Lower B19 sand has been completed, Hawkley will isolate it.

Hawkely will now continue with its original plan to complete the Sorochynska-202 well as a B18 producer, complementing its August output of 4.9 million standard cubic feet and 130 barrels of gas condensate a day.

"'We are pleased that the well has achieved its pre-drill objectives," CEO of Hawkley Richard Reavley said in a statement yesterday. "Following completion of testing activities the well will be completed for production from the Upper & Lower B18 sands.

"The confirmation of producible hydrocarbons in the Lower B19 would be of great significance to Hawkley and would lead to a second development project within the Sorochynska Licence."
