Gulf Energy, PTT to Build Thai LNG Terminal, Port

The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) October 1 signed an agreement with Gulf MPT LNG Terminal Company, a joint venture between Gulf Energy and a unit of state-run PTT, to build an LNG import terminal and port as part of Map Ta Phut Industrial Port Development Project Phase 3, IEAT said the same day.

The project will include the design and construction of the port and the LNG terminal that will have a capacity of at least 5mn metric tons/year in the first phase and up to 10.8mn mt/yr at a later stage, Reuters reported citing a statement by Gulf Energy. Map Ta Phut Industrial Port is located in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate area in the Map Ta Phut subdistrict of the Muang Rayong district of Rayong on the east coast of Thailand.

IEAT said that the project is the first of the five-infrastructure project in the Eastern Economic Corridor. Commercial operation of the project is scheduled to start by 2025, Reuters added.
