Gripen Gas to Explore for Shale Gas in Sweden

Gripen Gas AS has been awarded five licenses to for gas exploration in the Alum shale formation.

The Swedish Mines Inspectorate (Bergsstaten) granted the five exploration licenses (Ekeby, Hov, Eneby, Orlunda and Skedet) totaling 224 square kilometers in the Cambro-Ordivician basin of Östergötland County.

Gripen Gas AB is an independent Swedish gas exploration company established by Torgny Berglund and Stephen Crabtree.

Shell has been active in exploration for shale gas the Skaane region of Sweden and has drilled three wells to date.
