Air Products to Supply ECA LNG Tech

US gas equipment supplier Air Products announced on February 1 it had won a contract to provide its proprietary LNG technology, equipment and related process licence and advisory services to the Sempra Energy-operated ECA LNG project in Mexico.

Air Products' manufacturing facility in Florida will produce the coil wound heat exchangers for its AP-DMRTM LNG process technology, which will then be delivered to the ECA site in Ensenada, on Mexico's Pacific coast. The company's exchangers are up to 5 m in diameter and 55 m in length, and can weigh as much as 500 metric tons.

"This project will showcase the innovative benefits of our technology, as it will utilise our highly efficient and cost effective dual mixed refrigerant process for this unique, compact site location," Air Products' chief operating officer Samir Serhan said. "Our recently expanded manufacturing facility can serve all customer needs in terms of LNG production capacity and reinforces our commitment and presence to serve all the LNG markets worldwide, from baseload mega trains to mid-scale bunkering facilities to small-scale facilities."

Sempra took a final investment decision on the 3.25mn mt/yr ECA LNG plant last November, marking the only approval of new liquefaction capacity that year. France's Total took a 16.6% interest in the venture the following month and is to take over half the output. Production is slated to start in late 2024.
