RasGas: German LNG Demand to Boom as Nuclear Winds Down

The shutdown of German nuclear power stations will motivate a greater demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG), a RasGas executive has said.

Speaking at a conference in Rome, marketing and shipping executive Khalid Sultan Al-Kuwari said that Germany's LNG market could only continue to grow following the governmental decision to switch from nuclear power.

"We think LNG demand in Europe will continue to grow especially with the nuclear shutdowns in Germany," he said.

"From our perspective, we remain committed to Europe."

Germany made a decision to withdraw completely from the nuclear energy market following the Fukushima crisis in Japan in March of this year. Germany expects the shutdown to be complete by the end of 2022.
