Georgian O&G Moves on with Rehab of Pipeline to South Georgia

Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation completed 57.8% of the Tsiteli Khidi-Marneuli 25-km section, the company said on Tuesday, adding that the construction works should be completed by February 2015.

‘Construction works are being performed by the tender-winning company "Komfortmsheni  XXI." The construction works started in September, 2014 and are expected to be completed by February, 2015’ read the note released by the company.

"Tsiteli Khidi-Tsalka-Akhalkalaki Gas Pipeline" was finished in 1978 to deliver gas to South Georgia. The construction works are intended to rehabilitate the pipeline and decrease the leaks.

Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation also decided to build a new gas pipeline on “Tsiteli Khidi- Marneuli" section for safe operation of the main pipeline.

Georgia, which succeeded Kazakhstan at the helm of the Energy Charter on 1 January 2015 for a year, is stepping up cooperation with European countries. Estonia offered closer diplomatic ties with Tsibilisi.

Last month, European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Pierre Moscovici announced a Memorandum of Understanding with Georgia for a two-step program that would allow Tbilisi to get grants and loans for a total of €46 million.
