GEECL to Drill 184 New Wells on its Raniganj CBM Blocks

GEECL plans to drill 184 new wells on its Raniganj coal bed methane block over the next five years. It also will deploy another rig to increase output.

“We will continue to drive our ramp-up in production in 2012, with a second rig being deployed at Raniganj and best in class technology being used to accelerate fracturing. The substantial reserves upgrade we made in February is a positive sign about the recoverability of the Raniganj Block,” Prashant Modi, President and COO of Great Eastern.

GEECL said that output from Raniganj (south) block stood at 8.9 mmscfd and a total of 116 well were drilled on the block.

Work on Mannargudi Block will commence once expected approvals are received in the second quarter of 2012. Work consists of 30 pilot production wells and 50 core holes. The company has also submitted offers to ONGC from Raniganj (north) block.

GEECL was allotted the Mannargudi Block early last year.
