GECF statement to be read at Paris Climate Conference

The final statement of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, which is being held in Tehran, will be read at the annual Conference of Parties (COP) on climate change, Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said.

COP 21 will be held in Le Bourget, France, from 30 November to 11 December.

Year 2015 was unique in terms of climate change, Zanganeh said, adding that natural gas can play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Shana news agency reported on November 21.

“So, the final statement of GECF meeting will be read at the COP 21 conference,” he added.

In 2014, the total CO2 emission amount stalled at about 32 GT, unchanged from 2013, the International Energy Agency reported in mid-March.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) shares 57 percent of total global greenhouse gas emissions.

According to World Bank statistics, Iran produced above 0.6 GtCO2 in 2012.

Iran ranks 7th place in term of producing CO2 in the world.
