GE Vernova completes upgrades at Sabiya CCGT in Kuwait

GE Vernova on January 15 announced the successful completion of upgrades to four 9F.03 class gas turbines at the 2 GW Sabiya combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant in Kuwait.

The modernisation initiative is part of Kuwait's broader efforts to revamp its power generation infrastructure, aiming for increased efficiency and output.

The upgrades are anticipated to boost the power plant's block output by up to 6.3% and reduce the heat rate by as much as 1.8%. These improvements are expected to collectively enhance power production by up to 70 MW. The Sabiya power station, situated in Al Jahra, approximately 52 km from Kuwait City, is the largest power station in Kuwait, housing a total of six of GE Vernova’s 9F.03 gas turbines and three D11 steam turbines.

This project follows the successful upgrade of two gas turbines in the power plant's Block 1 by GE Vernova. The previous upgrades resulted in an output increase of up to 6%, leading to a combined boost in power production of over 35 MW, all achieved without the need for additional fuel consumption.
