GDF Suez, BP Announce Discovery in UK Central North Sea

The United Kingdom showed proof of its commitment to indigenous gas production over the last hours, with some minor successes both onshore and offshore.

GDF Suez E&P and BP announced a new discovery in the UK Central North Sea on Tuesday.

“At a time when exploration in the UKCS is facing severe investment and cost pressures it is heartening to see two UK explorers apply their expertise to understand the risks of the CNS and demonstrate that there are still significant  economic plays to be developed within the basin,” Oil & Gas UK’s operations director, Oonagh Werngren MBE commented in a note.

Werngren underlined that the UKCS needs to secure substantial investment through a mix of fiscal changes and technical achievements.

A few hours before, Europa Oil & Gas announced that the Planning Committee of Grimsby approved its proposal to drill the Kiln Lane conventional exploration well on licence PEDL 181 in East Lincolnshire.

“Planning approval is an important step and, subject to the granting of an Environmental Agency permit in a timely manner, we remain on course to commence operations at Kiln Lane by year end… Success would open up a new conventional oil and gas play and in the process de- risk additional leads identified,” Europa’s CEO, Hugh Mackay stated.
