Gazprom: Ukraine Talks "Constructive"

Talks between Gazprom and Ukraine have resumed in a "constructive manner", a statement from Gazprom has said.

Yesterday, CEO of Gazprom Alexey Miller and Ukrainian Minister for Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Boiko met at Gazprom's headquarters in Russia to continue talks on gas prices.

"The parties resolved to resume consultations and negotiations on the cooperation in the gas sector in compliance with the agreements reached by the countries' leaders in late 2011," the statement from Gazprom said.

Ukraine has been pushing for lower gas prices from Russia and has said recently that it plans to cut gas imports from a contracted 52 billion cubic metres of gas a year to 27 billion cubic metres of gas a year. So far, Russia has resisted any reductions of that size, saying Ukraine's contract allows for only a 20 per cent reduction in supply.
