Gazprom Moves Ahead with Shtokman Development

Gazprom, the Russian gas mammoth, has announced further development of the Shtokman field. Design and exploration work is under way within the project Phase 2 and Phase 3, the company said in a statement.

The Shtokman gas and condensate field is situated in the central part of the continental shelf within the Russian sector of the Barents Sea. C1 reserves of the field make up 3.9 trillion cubic meters of gas and 56.1 million tons of gas condensate.

Front-end engineering and design (FEED) documents for the offshore facilities have been elaborated in accordance with the international standards. Engineering surveys are at their final stage. Preparation of the project documents in compliance with the Russian standards is nearly completed. The documents will be submitted for the state expert review in 2013.

As part of the onshore facilities design development, tender documents have been prepared for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant. The LNG plant, with annual capacity of 30 million tons, is planned for the Orlovka River valley near the Teriberka settlement.

Gazprom has also submitted for expert review the engineering sections of the project documents related to the sea port and the LNG storage facility in the Teriberka Bay.
