Gazprom, Mitsui to Cooperate in LNG Space

Gazprom has agreed to work with Japanese Mitsui and Japan's Bank for International Co-operation (JBIC) under an agreement signed September 7. It covers the production, transportation and marketing of low- to-medium-tonnage LNG in Japan, as well as LNG bunkering in the Sea of Japan, Gazprom said.

Gazprom and Mitsui are partners in the Sakhalin-2 project, which operates the only LNG plant in Russia. In September 2016, Gazprom and Mitsui signed a memorandum of understanding on LNG bunkering.

The Russian gas major also signed a similar agreement with JBIC for cooperation in the energy sector.  The two parties also signed a memorandum of understanding that covers a number of provisions of the memorandum, signed in December 2016.

JBIC has financed the construction of the Blue Stream gas pipeline to Turkey, and the Sakhalin-2 project.
