Gazprom halts gas flow through Austria

Russia's Gazprom announced on October 1 it was suspending gas transit through Austria, citing the refusal of the country's gas grid operator to confirm transport nominations.

In a statement on its Telegram channel, Gazprom blamed regulatory changes that took effect in Austria at the end of September. It also said it was working with Italian buyers to resolve the problem.

Italy has been receiving all its Russian gas through Austria, via the Tarvisio entry point at the two countries' shared border, since the closure of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline at the end of August. Italy's Eni reported on October 1 that it would receive no Russian gas that day via Tarvisio, adding it did not expect the requested imports on October 2, and the situation would remain the same on October 3.
