Russian gas giant Gazprom is eyeing Tanzania’s gas sector and is interested in projects in country’s offshore and inland areas, including Lake Tanganyika, news agency Itar-Tass reported Saturday citing a report by Gazprom International.

Gazprom International is Gazprom’s unified company specializing in search, exploration, and development of hydrocarbon deposits outside Russia.

According to the report, Gazprom will soon complete the examination of geologic and geophysical and other information received to determine the prospects of further operation in Tanzania.

East African nations especially Tanzania and Mozambique have in recent years seen number of gas discoveries mainly offshore. The two countries are looking for foreign oil and gas firms to invest and exploit these new discovered resources.
