Gazprom finds more gas than produces for 16 years in row

Russia's Gazprom found 480bn m3 of gas in 2020 thanks to exploration work, the national gas company said in a statement on March 24, more than replenishing the 452.6bn m3 of gas it produced during the year.

Over the course of the year, Gazprom collected over 5,000 km2 of 3D seismic data and drilled through over 57,000 m of rock, including at some technically complex wells measuring up to 4,500 m in depth, the company said.

Exploration primarily took place on the Yamal Peninsula, where many of Russia's largest untapped gas discoveries are located, Russia's east and on the country's continental shelf. Gazprom made two large-sized gas discoveries in the Arctic Kara Sea last year.
