Gazprom Agrees to Seismic Shoot in Bangladesh

Gazprom signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on January 28 with Bangladeshi state upstream firm Bapex on joint seismic studies at Bangladesh’s Bhola Island, where two gas fields are situated, Bapex said in a statement.

The Russian company also signed a MoU with Bapex’s parent company Petrobangla on strategic co-operation.

Bangladesh relies on gas heavily for generating electricity, but shortages have led to rolling blackouts. The country wants to invest more in domestic gas production, which totalled 27.5bn m3 in 2018, and also expand LNG imports.
