Gate is the first LNG import terminal in the Netherlands with access to northwest Europe.

The terminal will have an initial throughput capacity of 12 billion cubic meters (bcm) per annum and will consist of three storage tanks and two jetty's. The terminal's annual throughput capacity can be increased to 16 bcm in the future.

Nederlandse Gasunie, the Dutch state-owned gas distribution company and Koninklijke Vopak N.V. are partners in the Gate terminal.

EON Ruhrgas AG, Dong Energy A/S, EconGas GmbH and RWE AG also have import rights at Gate.

Speaking to Bloomberg, David Fuller, head of LNG at RWE Supply & Trading GmbH, said that the German company would consider selling  its import slots “ this year and in the near term.”
