Gasum Promotes LNG as Truck Fuel

Finnish gas utility Gasum said August 22 it will promote its network of Scandinavian LNG filling stations at a truckers' fair in Sweden later this month.

It says it continues to build and strengthen the Nordic gas ecosystem by opening new LNG and liquefied biogas (LBG) filling stations in Sweden and Norway, as well as expanding in Finland.

Elmia Lastbil fair is a popular event for the whole trucking industry and takes place in the Swedish city of Jonkoping August 22-25. Gasum says that many vehicle manufacturers including Iveco, Scania and Volvo Trucks already offer LNG powered heavy-duty vehicles, in response to growing demand because LNG does not release any particulates and far less nitrogen oxide and CO2 than other fossil fuels.

Gasum also notes that, in May 2018, the European Commission proposed mandatory limits on carbon dioxide emissions from heavy-duty vehicles for the first time, according to which the average carbon dioxide emissions of new heavy-duty vehicles would be required to be 15% lower in 2025 than in 2019, and at least 30% lower in 2030.
