GasPort Terminal to Receive Pak's First Privately Sourced Cargo

Pakistan’s first privately sourced LNG cargo will arrive at Pakistan GasPort floating import terminal located at Mazhar Point, Port Qasim, Karachi, according to local media reports published October 28.

Last month, Universal Gas Distribution Company (UGDC) became Pakistan’s first private firm to sign an agreement to buy LNG. The deal was signed by UGDC CEO Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha and ExxonMobil vice president Richard Rayfield in Houston during Gastech. At present, state-owned Pakistan State Oil and Pakistan LNG have agreements to import LNG.

According to The News, UGDC will provide 40mn ft3/day regasified LNG (RLNG) to the compressed natural gas sector in Pakistan. The company is also in the process of finalising an agreement with the textile industry for the provision of RLNG, the newspaper reported.

Pakistan started importing LNG in March 2015 and has two operational LNG terminals, both at Port Qasim. Engro Elengy FSRU was commissioned in 2015 while Pakistan GasPort terminal became operational in late-2017.
