No Ancillary Gas Agreements in Nuclear Deal with Russia, Says Hungary’s PM

The deal signed by Hungary and Russia for nuclear cooperation does not include any ancillary agreement on gas imports, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Friday.

“A year ago we agreed (with President Putin) that we would negotiate every issue separately, and will not link any issue with any other issue,” Orban said as reported by Reuters.

Budapest and Moscow will cooperate in the nuclear sector, with Russia’s state-owned Rosatom expected to build new blocks at the Paks nuclear power plant in Hungary.

Orban and Putin met on Tuesday.

‘Following the talks, Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orban witnessed the signing of a number of documents, including an intergovernmental agreement for cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear power,’ reads the note released by the Kremlin after the signing ceremony.
