Fugro Wins Services Deal Offshore Suriname

Fugro has been awarded a contract from Malaysia's Petronas for positioning services for an exploration programme at Block 52 offshore Suriname in the Guyana-Suriname basin, it said on December 15.

Under the two-year contract, Fugro will provide its Starfix precise positioning solution to help transit, anchoring and drilling activities for the programme’s semi-submersible rig and support vessels. Fugro said that work on the contract had already begun and executing these services in a restrictive Covid-19 environment had so far “posed multiple operational challenges”.

Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago’s international borders were closed ahead of the programme’s first rig move in October 2020 but Fugro said its local staff worked with regulators to deliver the surface and subsurface positioning services needed to safely and accurately position the rig onsite.

Petronas announced its first discovery of hydrocarbons in Suriname at Block 52 on December 11. It did not say whether the find was gas or liquids or a mixture of both.
