Fugro Starts Adnoc Sour Gas Survey

Fugro has commenced a programme of geophysical and geotechnical surveys for Artelia, Abu Dhabi as part of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s Hail and Ghasha sour gas development, it said January 18.

Located offshore in the Arabian Gulf, the Hail and Ghasha gas development is part of Adnoc’s largest sour gas field project.

To meet the fast track schedule, Fugro has deployed specialised equipment to the Ghasha field, including self-elevating platforms for geotechnical work and crew accommodation. In the Hail field, an inter-tidal shoal area, it is conducting surveys with amphibious buggies while in deeper water, marine geophysical and bathymetric surveys are being performed using its state-of-the-art survey vessel, Fugro Proteus.

Earlier this month, Adnoc awarded engineering design contracts to US contractor Bechtel and France’s TechnipFMC for the sour gas mega project, which consists of the Hail, Ghasha and Dalma fields. Adnoc believes it will meet 20% of the UAE gas demand by the second half of the 2020s.
