French Senate to Continue Shale Debate
The French Senate will resume its debate on the bill passed by the National Assembly on the exploration and exploitation of shale gas and shale oil on Wednesday.
Debate on legislation approved by the French lower house that prohibited hydraulic fracturing in unconventional resource exploration and exploitation was suspended on June 1st.
Senators voted during the committee stage to make amendments to the text adopted by the National Assembly on May 11th.
The most significant change provides for "projects for scientific purposes to evaluate the technique of hydraulic fracturing or alternative techniques."
The Socialist Party has announced that it plans to challenge the proposed amendments.
