First Shale Well in China's Henan Province Flows Gas

First shale well in China’s Henan province has achieved gas flow, according to Xinhua Finance Agency.

The well is located in Kaifeng city of Xiangfu district and has achieved steady gas flow, Henan Provincial Department of Land and Resources said.

This is the first time that shale gas has been discovered in urban planning area. The gas field in which the well is located has a technical recoverable reserve of 12.75 billion cubic meters, Xinhua Finance reported.

In the past few years China has been working hard to exploit its vast shale gas reserves. China has achieved significant level of localisation in shale gas exploration technology.

According to statistics from China Geological Survey, China added 106.75 billion cubic meters of proved shale gas reserve in 2014, and total shale gas output hit 1.3 billion cubic meters in the year.

China has set ambitious targets for shale gas production. Beijing aims to increase shale gas output to 30 billion cubic meters by 2020.
