First Phase of East India Pipe to be Ready by January: Report

First phase of Gail’s ambitious east India gas pipeline will be commissioned by January 2019, company chairman BC Tripathi said November 6, Press Trust of India reported the same day.

The $2bn Jagadishpur-Haldia-Bokaro-Dhamra Natural Gas Pipeline (JHBDPL) also known as Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (PMUG) will carry gas to eastern states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.

“The first phase of PMUG project will be commissioned within two months,” Tripathi said. “It will be before January.” First phase of the project involves laying the pipeline to Dobhi, Patna and Barauni in Bihar. The pipeline will be extended from Barauni to Guwahati in north-eastern state of Assam.

The pipeline will supply natural gas to fertilizer plants, power plants, refineries, steel plants and other industries. It will also provide natural gas to households and transportation in the cities en-route the pipeline. The 2,539-km pipeline is expected to be fully ready by December 2020.
