Finland's Wartsila Bags Order for Ship LNG Systems

Finnish tech group Wartsila has been selected to provide key equipment for three LNG-fuelled coastal roll-on, lift-off vessels under construction in China’s WuHu shipyard, it said in a statement on January 24.

The vessels will be owned by Bore, a Finnish subsidiary of the Netherlands’ Spliethoff Group, which will charter them out to Finnish pulp and paper maker UPM. The first of the ships is scheduled for delivery in mid-2021.

Wartsila said the vessels would house its 250-m3 LNGPac storage and supply systems, fitted below deck without compromising on cargo space. They will be propelled by Wartsila’s 34DF dual-fuel engines and equipped with Wartsila gearboxes and controlled pitch propellers.

UPM struck deals last August to charter three LNG-fuelled vessels from Bore and a further four from another Spliethoff company, Wijnne Barends.
