Final Yamal LNG Tanker Enters Service

The last of 15 Arc7-classed LNG tankers designed for delivering gas from the Yamal LNG project has entered service, one of its equipment providers, Swiss-based ABB, reported on December 11.

The Yakov Gakkel was built at the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Okpo shipyard in South Korea. It is one of six ice-breaking carriers owned by a joint venture between US-listed Teekay LNG and China’s Cosco Dalian that are serving Yamal LNG. The 16.5mn mt/yr export plant is operated by Russia's Novatek.

The Yamal LNG plant came on stream in December 2017, with its first cargo transported by the Christophe de Margerie Arc7 tanker controlled by Russia’s Sovcomflot. The remainder of the 15-strong fleet is owned by Japan’s Mol and Greece’s Dynagas. Each vessel has a storage capacity of 170,000 m3.
