Australian LNG Import Terminal FID by Mid-2019

Major Australian energy retailer AGL is expecting to make a final investment decision on its proposed Australian LNG import terminal between July this year and June next year, the company said February 8.

The Crib Point LNG import jetty is progressing through key milestones for the FID in fiscal 2018-2019, AGL said in a presentation.

The project would be Australia’s first such import terminal and, if it goes to plan, would be coming online shortly after when Australia is tipped to become the world’s largest LNG exporter.

The company confirmed Crib Point, which is in the southeast Australian state of Victoria, as the preferred location for the project in August last year.

At that time, it also said that it is expected to be a 100 petajoule (2.67bn m3) per year project, with construction intended to commence in 2019 and the terminal coming into operation by 2020/2021.

AGL began sounding out prospective suppliers to the proposed terminal three months ago.
