ExxonMobil to Commence Shale Gas Exploration in Poland

ExxonMobil is to launch unconventional gas exploration in the Lublin basins in Eastern Poland.

Exxon Mobil was granted exploration acreage in Chełm, Krasynstaw, Hrubieszów and Tomaszów districts.

“We are at the very beginning of exploration. Evaluating the situation will take about a year and a half. Then we will be able to say if it is possible to exploit shale gas. Some more years will be needed to confirm that this enterprise is profitable business-wise” commented a ExxonMobil spokesperson, reports polishmarket.com.

The representatives of ExxonMobil met with Lubelskie provincial authority heads to talk about the US company's plans to begin shale gas exploration in the region. According to ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Poland management board member James Johnston, the enterprise will soon commence seismic research there.

Genowefa Tokarska, Chairman of Lublin Province, underlines that discovering gas in Lublin region would be the chance for the region to upgrade economically and it would guarantee Poland’s independence from gas supplies from abroad. In her talks with ExxonMobil representatives she emphasized the importance of environment protection.
