Exxon, TotalEnergies to join Qatar LNG expansion: press

Global majors ExxonMobil and TotalEnergies are among a small group of companies awarded a piece of Qatar Energy’s $30bn North Field expansion, which will increase the kingdom’s LNG production capacity to 126mn mt/yr by 2027, Reuters reported June 7.

The two majors, which are already part of Qatar’s LNG industry, joined Shell, ConocoPhillips, Chevron and Italy’s Eni in submitting bids in May 2021 to join the expansion project. At the time, Qatar Energy had already decided to sanction the North Field expansion but opened a bid process to seek partners to share financial risk.

A formal announcement is expected later this month, sources told Reuters, possibly when ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods attends an energy conference with Qatar Energy executives. For its part, Qatar Energy said it had scheduled a press conference and signing ceremony for June 12, without giving any details.
