European Firm in Talks to Build Gas Pipeline in Iran

A European company is in touch with Iran to invest in country’s 9th cross-country gas pipeline, intended to export natural gas to Turkey, according to Trend News Agency.

Negotiations between the two parties are expected to commence on September 22, Iran's Gas Engineering and Development Company's managing director Alireza Gharibi said.

He did not disclose the name of the company, Trend News said.

Iran’s 9th cross-country gas pipeline is projected to stretch 1,800 kilometers from southern Assalouyeh region to northwestern Bazargan border.

Tehran currently exports about 36 million cubic meters (mcm) per day to its western neighbour. Turkey is willing to increase its purchase of Iranian gas but wants a lower price for the fuel. Tehran and Ankara expect to conclude gas price talks by year end.
