European Commission to Announce Energy Stress Tests

The European Commission is getting ready to deliver its ‘political messages,’ while preparing the Energy Council scheduled for Friday.

Apart from the issue of Indirect Land Use Change (ILUC) and the production of biofuels, the meeting is expected to endorse the European Commission’s intention to launch the energy security stress tests without delay.

‘Further, the ministers will be invited to endorse the "Council Conclusions on energy prices and costs and competitiveness", and on the protection of vulnerable consumers. Rising energy prices are a major concern for European governments, citizens and businesses and they affect Europe's global competitiveness,’ reads a note released on Thursday.

In the same contest, the Presidency and the Commission are expected to give some more details of European geopolitical relations, with special attention paid to Ukraine.

‘The Commission will update on recent developments in the nuclear field and the Italian delegation will present their program as incoming Presidency.’

Energy issues are high on European agenda and new turns could also come from a decision of the European Court of Justice, which is expected to deliberate on whether non-domestic renewable power is eligible for support under other nations' renewable electricity incentive schemes.

The European Court of Justice’s decision ‘may have consequences for the various renewable electricity incentive schemes in the EU member states,’ reads a press release published by Sweden’s Vattenfall.
