Equinor strikes out in Norwegian North Sea

Equinor has drilled a dry well at licence PL1049 in the Norwegian North Sea, its junior partner Longboat Energy reported on June 6.

Longboat had hoped that the Cambozola well, targeting one of Norway's largest undeveloped gas prospects, would be a play opener. But the well, sunk to a depth of 4,393 m below sea level, failed to encounter any effective reservoir, and will now be plugged and abandoned.

"Naturally, we are disappointed that the Cambozola well was not a success but we look forward to continuing our fully-funded, gas-focused exploration programme with the large Oswig and Copernicus wells both anticipated to spud during the summer," Longboat CEO Helge Hammer said in a statement.
