Equinor Signs Seismic Tech Deal

Norway's Equinor has entered a multi-year deal for seismic processing and imaging technology with Australian IT firm DUG.

Under the agreement, Equinor will replace third-party technology with an integrated solution using DUG McCloud, an platform that allows clients to mix and match its computing as a service, seismic processing and imaging services, and its DUG Insight geoscience software.

"We demonstrated that the ease of use, effectiveness and productivity of DUG Insight within the McCloud environment have the potential to provide short and long-term benefits, not to mention saving considerable money along the way," DUG's managing director Matthew Lamont said.

DUG said it had developed an advanced cooling method that reduces energy use and increases the life and efficiency of its hardware. This DUG Cool system involves submerging high-performance computing servers in a special fluid, resulting in a 46% power saving next to using a traditional, air-cooled room.

"The patented cooling system enables us to operate some of the greenest supercomputers in the world and we’re looking forward to offer this technology to Equinor," Lamont said.
